Preschool Pals

The Preschool Pals is geared towards laying the groundwork for reading, writing, and arithmetic. Each activity promotes problem solving, listening, critical and creative thinking. The students are increasing their attention spans and memory capacity and relating them to past experiences. Their fine motor skills are challenged through our writing program and homework books.

Preschool students will also engage in the Reading Response Journals that are also used in the Little Learners Program. Reading Response Journals that allow the children to respond artistically and verbally to children’s literature. After the children are read a story they are given an open ended question to respond to in their journals. They are asked to draw a picture and then their verbal response is recorded using the Language Experience Approach in the journal. This opportunity allows the children to expand their thinking and reasoning skills along with their comprehension skills.

The students also are introduced to the beginning stages of reading by learning weekly word families and sight words.

Each child’s developmental success is measured and recorded on a report card that is given to the parents twice a year once at the beginning of the school year and once towards the end of the year. Parents are also given the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s progress during parent teacher conferences.

Preschoolers also go on exciting field trips that are geared towards the monthly curriculum to enhance what they are learning in the classroom. Parent volunteers are always welcomed and the children travel by school bus.

The teachers monitor each child’s development progress through the use of portfolios, which are a collection of a child’s work. These portfolios help teachers with future lesson planning and how to evaluate the needs of each student.

Preschoolers use weekly scholastic magazines as a learning tool to increase vocabulary and comprehension skills. These magazines are a fun learning tool that the children enjoy using.

Our Preschool Pals Program will enhance preparation for future academic success and our trained staff prepares them for the gifted program.
