All staff members are CPR and First Aid Trained, ensuring the safety and well-being of every child in their care. Our team is committed to lifelong learning and professional development. Each year, they complete comprehensive training programs that include all requirements mandated by the New York City Department of Health. Teacher Profiles:

NADIA CASTILLO CHICO (3K Teacher)

Nadia started Stepping Stones in 2021 as an enthusiastic after school teacher who recently graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in Psychology. She has been a 3K teacher since 2022. Her academic background has provided her with a profound understanding of human behavior, which she is eager to apply in her teaching at Stepping Stones, where she has over three years of experience. Outside of the classroom, Nadia is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys long walks and participating in various outdoor events, finding joy and relaxation in nature. This passion for the outdoors often influences her teaching methods, as she integrates natural elements into her lessons. Nadia’s primary goal is to show her students that learning and homework can be fun, emphasizing that education is not solely about academic achievement but also about creativity and discovery. Through innovative teaching techniques and engaging activities, she strives to create a fun and rewarding learning environment. Looking ahead, Nadia is excited to guide her students throughout the year, dedicating herself to fostering a supportive and inspiring atmosphere where they can thrive both academically and personally. VICTORIA CABAN (3K Teacher)

Victoria, known as Ms. Vicky, is a dedicated educator at Stepping Stones who has been making a difference since 2017. Growing up in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn and currently residing in the welcoming community of Bay Ridge, Ms. Vicky began her journey at Stepping Stones with the three-year-old program and has since expanded her impactful work to include the two-year-old program. With several years of valuable experience in education, she previously managed afterschool programs for a non-profit arts education organization, showcasing her versatility and commitment to nurturing young minds. Additionally, her work at a partial separation two-year-old program in Brooklyn Heights has equipped her with the skills to create enriching educational experiences for young children. Outside of her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Vicky is furthering her education at Brooklyn College, where she is on track to receive her degree in 2024, leading to her certification in education. This commitment to lifelong learning underscores her passion for teaching and personal growth. When she isn’t inspiring children, she enjoys baking and exploring her enthusiasm for nerd culture, reflecting her creative and curious nature. Looking to the future, Ms. Vicky is dedicated to fostering a safe, fun, and enriching environment at Stepping Stones. She values the opportunity to contribute to the development of young children and is excited about the years ahead, eager to continue making a positive impact in the lives of her students.


MADISON CARTELLI (Extended Day Teacher)

Madison joined the Stepping Stones team in 2025 as an extended day teacher. She is currently pursuing a degree in Speech-Language Pathology and is passionate about working with children. For the past five years, Madison has served as an assistant dance instructor and plans to continue teaching in the future. A fun fact about Madison: she has been a competitive dancer for 14 years, which has deepened her love for the art of dance and her dedication to helping young children explore their own creativity and passion. In her free time, Madison enjoys spending time with her dog, family, and friends.


MIA CELAYA (After School Teacher)

Stepping Stones is excited to welcome Mia Celaya as this year’s Afterschool Teacher! Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mia brings a passion for working with children and is dedicated to creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment where students can learn and grow after school. With a background in customer service, hospitality, and education, Mia values patience, communication, and building strong relationships. She has experience supporting students socially, emotionally, and academically, and she looks forward to bringing that care and energy to the classroom. Outside of work, Mia enjoys soccer (she’s great at it!), spending time with loved ones, exploring new places, and, fun fact—her favorite color is pink! Mia’s goal is to create a welcoming space where every child feels seen, celebrated, and excited to participate. She looks forward to working closely with families to make this a fun, successful year.


NICOLETTE CELIA (Toddler Teacher)

Meet Nicolette, who has joined the Stepping Stones family last year. With over a decade of experience working with children, she brings invaluable expertise that will enhance our team. Growing up in a large family filled with young children has fostered her natural ability to nurture and support young minds, making her a perfect fit for our community. Nicolette is passionate about education and finds great joy in forming strong connections with her students. She is enthusiastic about starting her new journey in the classroom, where she aims to further refine her teaching skills and foster a positive learning atmosphere. In her personal life, Nicolette enjoys a range of activities that keep her connected to nature and her loved ones. She loves taking walks, exploring the outdoors, and spending sunny days at the beach, often cherishing these moments with family and close friends. We are confident that her warm and nurturing approach, combined with her dedication to teaching, will significantly enrich our Stepping Stones community. 


STEPHANIE De ZENGOTITA (Floater)

Stephanie joined Stepping Stones as a substitute teacher in the Spring of 2023 and was excited to become a permanent member of the team as an assistant teacher and a “floater.” She holds a BA in Dance and Performance Studies with a minor in Child Development from Roger Williams University. After performing with a contemporary dance company and teaching at a studio, Stephanie followed her passion for Early Education. She has taught in various preschool programs and developed enrichment classes and curricula. With a decade of extensive experience, Stephanie has embraced the numerous opportunities to learn from her students and remains captivated by how young learners can “teach” in unique ways. Her experience and enthusiasm shape her teaching approach, allowing her to connect with and nurture each student. A strong advocate for early education, she enjoys integrating American Sign Language and movement into her lessons. Originally from New Jersey, Stephanie now resides in Bay Ridge with her husband and is a proud mother of two boys.


JILLIAN ENGLISH (3K Teacher)

Since joining the Stepping Stones family in 2018, Jillian has consistently proven to be a remarkable addition to the team. Her vibrant personality and creative spirit have greatly enriched the experiences of both students and colleagues alike. Jillian’s diverse roles at Stepping Stones highlight her versatility and dedication as an educator. She has served in several capacities, including Extended Day Teacher, After School Teacher, Toddler Teacher and 3K Teacher. Her ability to engage children across different age groups is a testament to her adaptability and commitment to early childhood education. Jillian is a proud graduate of Brooklyn College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Her academic background equips her with the skills necessary to foster a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Beyond academics, Jillian’s enthusiasm for art shines through in her teaching approach. She often incorporates artistic elements into her lessons, encouraging children to explore their creative potential. Jillian has a unique talent for making learning fun. She loves to play creative games with the children, which not only enhances their cognitive skills but also promotes teamwork and social interaction. Jillian’s patience and kindness are evident in her daily interactions. Her compassionate nature makes her a beloved figure among her students and peers.  Jillian welcomed a new furry friend into her life—Binx, her adorable dog. Binx has brought additional joy and companionship, further enriching Jillian’s life and bringing smiles to those around her. Her impactful presence continues to inspire and uplift everyone she encounters.


DONNA FONTANA (Toddler Teacher)

Since 2014, Donna has been an integral part of Stepping Stones, showcasing her versatility and dedication across various roles. She began her journey in our toddler program, transitioned to our three-year-old program and returned back to the toddler program. Donna’s love for working with children is evident in her enthusiasm for witnessing their learning and growth throughout the school year. Her approach is both nurturing and supportive, ensuring every child feels valued and understood. Her patience and kindness shine through in her interactions, treating each child as if they were her own. Outside of her professional life, Donna enjoys the simple pleasures of snuggling up with a good book. Family time is precious to her, and she cherishes moments spent with loved ones and her future husband to be. This balance of personal and professional life enriches her ability to connect with children and families at Stepping Stones. Donna’s commitment to helping children adjust to their new school environment is unmatched. DIANNA FURSA (Toddler Teacher)

Meet Dianna, a compassionate educator at Stepping Stones who began her journey with the organization in 2021. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and plans to pursue a Master’s Degree, Dianna brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering love for teaching that started in her high school years. Since 2011, she has dedicated herself to working with children under the age of five, honing her skills in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning and play, especially among the three-year-olds she will guide at Stepping Stones.

Beyond her professional commitments, Dianna values her time with her husband and their two young children, who are the cornerstone of her life. This balance between her roles as a teacher and a mother provides her with joy and support. Looking ahead, Dianna is filled with excitement for the upcoming year at Stepping Stones. She is eager to inspire and educate young learners, knowing that she will play a pivotal role in their early development. With her enthusiasm and dedication, Dianna promises a year brimming with growth, exploration, and fun for both herself and her students.


IRENE GEORGIOU (UPK Teacher @The Next Step)

Irene joined Stepping Stones in 2024, driven by her passion for inspiring and helping others. With extensive experience in tutoring, she is eager to leverage her skills in her new role. Irene earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from LIU Brooklyn and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Brooklyn College. Her commitment to education is evident in her plans to complete her Teaching Certification in 2025.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Irene has a strong connection to her community. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks with her dog, Snickers, getting lost in books, and journaling. These hobbies not only help her relax but also enrich her teaching methods, enabling her to connect with her students on various levels. Irene’s dedication to education and her community makes her a valuable addition to the Stepping Stones team, where she looks forward to making a positive impact on her students’ lives.


KATHERINE GILBERT (Toddler Assistant Teacher)

Katherine is warmly welcomed to Stepping Stones as she embarks on a wonderful journey as a Toddlers Assistant Teacher. Her background in Sociology and her pursuit of a Master’s in Early Childhood Education provide fantastic foundations for making a positive impact in young children’s lives. It’s heartwarming to hear about her love for working with kids and how her experiences in a large family have shaped her passion. Her interests in travel and neighborhood walks suggest she brings a well-rounded perspective and a sense of adventure to her teaching. Family and friends are invaluable to her, and it’s lovely that she prioritizes spending time with them. Here’s wishing Katherine an exciting and fulfilling first year at Stepping Stones!


JILLIAN GUIDO (3K Teacher)

Meet Jillian, a passionate early childhood educator who has been making a significant impact at Stepping Stones since 2017. With over six years of experience, she plays a crucial role in the early learning community, particularly teaching two and three-year-olds. Jillian’s journey in education encompasses both early intervention and preschool settings, where her extensive work with children with special needs has reinforced her belief that each child learns in their own unique way. This philosophy is central to her teaching methods, ensuring that every child receives the individualized support they need to flourish. Jillian’s goals focus on empowering her students by fostering their independence and encouraging them to explore their surroundings while facilitating learning through play. She is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe and inspired to discover their interests and capabilities. To further enhance her effectiveness as an educator, Jillian is committed to ongoing professional development, believing that a positive early school experience is vital for future success. Outside the classroom, Jillian enjoys unwinding with a good book or searching for the perfect candle to create a cozy atmosphere at home. Recently, she has embraced a new chapter in her life as a mother two baby boys, which adds an enriching layer of joy and learning to her personal journey. Looking ahead, Jillian is excited about the upcoming year and eager to witness the growth and discovery of her students. Her unwavering passion and commitment to early childhood education not only inspire those around her but also make her an invaluable asset to Stepping Stones and the children she serves.


EMILY HERNANDEZ (After School Teacher)

Stepping Stones is thrilled to welcome Emily as an Afterschool Teacher this year! She brings several years of experience working with children of various ages, which has fueled her deep passion for creating supportive, engaging spaces where kids can learn, grow, and have fun. Emily is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY, with an expected graduation in December 2025. Her academic background, combined with her hands-on experience, helps her foster an environment where students feel safe, confident, and excited to try new things.Emily is committed to building strong relationships with both students and families. She looks forward to a year filled with adventure, creativity, and lots of learning. Whether it’s making new friends, exploring new activities, or just enjoying a fun afternoon, she’s ready to make every day meaningful for her students.


KYRA KALINOVSKY (Toddler Assistant Teacher)

Stepping Stones is excited to welcome Ms. Kyra as an Assistant Teacher, supporting the toddler  classroom. A proud Bay Ridge native, Kyra grew up in the area and attended a local high school. She recently graduated from the University at Albany with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, and this fall, she will begin her Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at Stony Brook University.  Kyra brings a strong background in childcare, having worked as a camp counselor for five years and as a dance instructor. She also has valuable experience working with toddlers and is excited to bring her passion, energy, and creativity into the classroom.  She loves being part of children’s growth and development and finds joy in helping them discover new things each day.

In her free time, Kyra enjoys lifting at the gym, spending time with friends and family, and soaking up the summer sunshine. Kyra is thrilled to begin this new journey at Stepping Stones and is looking forward to a joyful and successful school year. 


SAMANTHA KANELLIS (3K Assistant Teacher)

Samantha, affectionately known as Miss Sam, joined Stepping Stones in 2023. As an assistant teacher, she is thrilled to embark on this new journey with the Stepping Stones community and its wonderful students. Miss Sam is eager to tackle daily challenges and is dedicated to guiding children towards independence, socialization, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment in her classroom. Sam is committed to fostering an atmosphere where each child can thrive. She believes in the importance of helping students become independent thinkers and encouraging them to socialize and collaborate with their peers. Her goal is to create a classroom where every child feels valued and supported.

Sam is looking forward to spending time with your little ones and making this year special. Her enthusiasm for education and her dedication to her students are sure to create a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved. Outside of the classroom, Sam enjoys taking walks around the neighborhood, which allows her to unwind and appreciate the beauty of her surroundings. She also loves grabbing a coffee at Starbucks, a simple pleasure that fuels her energetic days. Sam can’t wait to see all the fun and learning that this year will bring! DANIELLE PATTERINO (3K Assistant Teacher)

Danielle has been making a positive impact as an assistant teacher for 3K for many years. In 2024, she joined the Stepping Stones community, continuing her dedicated role as an assistant teacher for three-year-olds. Her passion for early childhood education is evident in her bright spirit and kind nature, qualities that have endeared her to both children and colleagues alike.

Danielle is thoroughly enjoying her time at Stepping Stones, where she thrives in the vibrant and nurturing environment. Her warm disposition creates a welcoming atmosphere for the young learners, ensuring that they feel safe and loved. Her commitment to fostering a positive learning environment has left a lasting impression on all the children she has worked with over the years.

Outside of her professional life, Danielle has a variety of interests that keep her active and engaged. Here are a few fun facts about her. Danielle loves going to the gym and taking long walks. Staying active is an important part of her daily routine. She is a big fan of the Yankees and enjoys cheering them on during the baseball season. Danielle also has a passion for exploring new places and often indulges in taking small trips to unwind and recharge with upstate nature hikes and walks along the beach. Danielle is a cherished member of the Stepping Stones team, and her dedication to teaching and her zest for life continue to inspire those around her.


ALEXIA POULOS (Floater and Extended Day Teacher)

Alexia has been an after-school teacher at Stepping Stones since 2023. She absolutely loves working with children of all ages and take pride in creating a nurturing and engaging environment for them to thrive.  Her journey in childcare began in 2016 when she discovered her passion for working with kids while babysitting. From there, she gained experience in various school programs, which further deepened her commitment to helping children learn, grow, and have amazing days.

Currently, she is pursuing her degree in Early Childhood Education at the College of Staten Island. She is excited to continue expanding my knowledge and skills to better help the children she works with and make a lasting, positive impact on their lives.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and best friends. She also enjoy grabbing a coffee, going to sports games, and traveling to new places!


ROSARY SCHININA (UPK Teacher @ The Next Step)

Meet Rosary, a dedicated educator at Stepping Stones, who has been a cherished teacher since 2007. Her passion for education ignited when she was just 12 years old, a flame that has only intensified over the years. As both a teacher and a mother of two, Rosary possesses a unique understanding of the concerns parents have regarding their children’s early childhood development. This dual perspective allows her to forge meaningful connections with parents while effectively preparing her students for their future educational journeys.

In her role as a cornerstone of the Pre-K program at The Next Step, Rosary has created a nurturing and enthusiastic classroom environment where children can thrive. Her dedication and caring nature set her apart as an exceptional educator. Students who have experienced her teaching often reflect on their time with her fondly, viewing her as the embodiment of what a teacher should be.

Rosary’s empathy and understanding are further enhanced by her own experiences as a parent. She relates to the challenges and milestones that families encounter, and this empathy informs her teaching style, creating a supportive atmosphere for both students and their families.

JOSSELYN VICTORIO (3K Assistant Teacher / Social Media Content Creator) 

Stepping Stones is delighted to welcome Josselyn as the 3K Assistant Teacher.  This will be her second year working in the 3K program, and she is truly excited to continue building meaningful relationships and creating wonderful memories with the children. Josselyn is passionate about early childhood education and believes that these early years are crucial for social, emotional, and academic growth. She strives to create a nurturing and joyful environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to explore their creativity.

Originally from Peru and raised in Queens, Josselyn brings a rich cultural background to the classroom, which enhances her ability to connect with families from diverse communities. As a proud Stepping Stones parent of two, she understands firsthand the importance of a strong partnership between families and teachers. This unique perspective allows her to empathize with both students and parents, making her a compassionate and dedicated member of the Stepping Stones community.

Outside of the classroom, Josselyn enjoys a variety of hobbies that keep her energized and inspired. She loves dancing, which allows her to express herself creatively and stay active. She also enjoys vlogging and photography, capturing moments that tell stories and preserve memories. Additionally, Josselyn has a passion for traveling and exploring new cultures, which broadens her worldview and informs her teaching approach. Josselyn looks forward to a fun-filled, engaging, and successful year ahead. She is eager to partner with families to support each child’s growth and development, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for everyone involved.


MAYRA VIERA-MALLIA (3K Assistant Teacher)

Mayra joined Stepping Stones in 2024 and brings a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology along with extensive classroom experience. She has served as a floater, a 2K assistant teacher, and forms part of the 3K program. Dedicated to fostering growth through patience and support, Mayra creates a nurturing environment where children thrive. She recently completed her Hemodialysis Technician degree, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning. Fluent in multiple languages and passionate about exploring cultures, she integrates this global perspective into her teaching to inspire curiosity and creativity in her students.


SYLVIA VILA (Extended Day Teacher)

Sylvia, a passionate educator who joined the team at Stepping Stones in 2022 is thrilled to be working with the extended day students.  Her enthusiasm for early childhood education is palpable. With a wealth of experience and a nurturing spirit, she brings a special warmth to her role that resonates with both her students and colleagues. Sylvia is an alumna of Duchess Community College and is eager to continue her educational journey. Her commitment to lifelong learning serves as a stellar example for those around her, inspiring both students and fellow educators alike. With five years of experience in education, her background is diverse, including roles in camps, nursery schools, preschools, and as a babysitter. Over the years, she has honed her skills in creating nurturing and stimulating environments for young learners, ensuring that each child feels valued and inspired.

Outside her professional life, Sylvia enjoys spending quality time with her family, listening to music, shopping, and writing. These activities not only allow her to relax but also fuel her creativity, which she seamlessly incorporates into her teaching methods. Sylvia’s teaching philosophy revolves around the joy of witnessing the transformation of each student into a mature and capable individual. She strives to establish an engaging and interactive learning atmosphere, believing that children should not only receive knowledge but also develop a genuine love for the process of learning.
